Who we are

TESCO – Componentes para automóveis, Lda. is an industrial unit located in Ribeirão, Vila Nova de Famalicão, specialized in the production of components for the automotive industry by aluminium die casting.

Founded in 1993, the company is part of the Metts Corporation / Honda Foundry Group, a Japanese group with over 5 decades of experience in aluminium die casting and pioneer in magnesium die casting.

TESCO is the only European base of the eleven factories of this Japanese multinational and already has hundreds of highly qualified employees, guided by demanding quality standards, innovation and creativity, who produce a wide range of automotive components on a daily basis.

Technology

We produce a wide range of aluminium components and improve our production processes on a daily basis. We believe that continuous improvement is the only way to achieve excellence and to meet the high quality standards set by our customers.

High Pressure Die Casting

Our thirteen casting machines ensure a production casting volume of 7000ton and 5 million pieces per year. Our machines are equipped with HPDC compression and vacuum technology, a distinctive technology developed within the Metts Group, so that we may achieve maximum performance.

In addition, we are equipped with state-of-the-art robots and high-precision presses, equipment that enables us to make work faster, safer and more efficiently.

Production

The manufacturing process includes machining, process verification, leak testing, component assembly and visual inspection to ensure that parts will be delivered within customer specifications.

The layout of TESCO’s 122 pieces of equipment (including CNC, lathes, air/water and air/air leak test machines and specially designed assembly machines), is designed to ensure maximum process efficiency, reflecting 5S methodology and Lean methodology principles.

TESCO

The Research & Development Department (R&DD) is a multidisciplinary structure, which has as its mission the promotion, support, stimulation, coordination and dissemination of the scientific research of TESCO. The R&DD is responsible for the management of all technical data of products, the study and development of production processes and the feasibility study of new products.

It is focused on innovation and gives direct support to the various sectors so that all are aligned with the standards, guidelines and objectives set by the R&DD.

Metts Group decide to launch an affiliate in Europe to support Honda of the UK Manufacturing with the supply of engine parts.
Tesco was established in Trofa.

Started supply of castings and Machining parts for Automotive Air Compressor, in a business that goes on until today.
Awarded with Honda delivery performance.

2008

Launch of new production facility in Famalicão, with 34.000m2, to follow customer increase demand.

Additional Logistic Warehouse Hub, with 1000m2.
Economic Merit Award from City hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão.

Enlarged the portefolio of type of parts produced, with Award of business for EPS parts (Electronic Power Steering).
Awarded with Challenge & Innovation from Sanden.

Expansion of production area to respond to market demand.
New business for Intercoolers parts.

Expansion of Logistic Warehouse Hub, with construction of additional 2000m2.

Nominated for production of components for HUD, which represents further diversification of applications.
